I've solved all of Parts 2, 3 and 4 - but my carol-singing (solving) is hopeless. Could anyone give me a slight hint re any of 31 A, 8 D and 9 D? I have been scrambling the clues all day and all I've managed to do is scramble my brain.

PS. This will make sense only to people who have a copy of this crossword.

Hi malone, I don't have the crossword but if you could give the clues I'll see if I can make any sense of them.

At this very early stage in the prize competition, I can only indicate to you the nature of the three excerpts:
31a refers to God's sacrifice for Mankind
8d is a call for peace
9d refers (I think) to the three wise men
---they're all from welll-known carols, tho' I didn't at first
recognize the lines myself, I must admit.
Try googling the combinations of words you can guess from the letters you have!

Thanks - I think I spent so long trying to anagram these, I didn't spend enough time sorting out individual words. My knowledge of carols is ... not extensive.

OK, one more hint. The excerpts are split into the 2 grids as follows:
31 : 3 words left, 2 words right
8 : 4 " " 4 " "
9 : 3 " " 3 " "
Does that help just a little?
You now have much more informatio than I had, and I'm no carol expert!

Susan, I should have added - I wanted only a little hint. The clues themselves are each just lengthy anagrams of quotations from Christmas carols - I didn't/don't want to list these and be given the solutions. Thanks anyway!
