Oh Dear! I got 5 immediately after posting, but I now only have 11 12eD answers. 29 is a bit of a headache really, because the word that fits 12's into another, but neither seem remotely connected with the clue (other than the 1st 4 letters of the one that fits! - but that would double my problems)

Based on the comments posted after my initial query, I'm 100% certain I have the intended final term. I entered that term into Google, but the results have not provided the necessary enlightenment. I still don't know what the final term means nor how it cryptically relates to the title.

Jaye - you need to go back to the UK before the 70s to get the meaning of the term required here, and still have to understand how that relates to the title - I'm being deliberately vague, but if you do get all the pennies to drop it does make sense, in a somewhat groan-producing way.

Thanks Demeter and KT for clue explanations. I had most of the wordplay for 29 worked out, but it was the definiton that floored me.

I still don't understand the end game.

First I thought the term spelt out by the columns must be 'T****E A*D S*X', these being elements in the initial grid, but I don't think that can be right.

All the pennies have now dropped...just realised the significance of ONEPO. Definitely a groan moment!
