Never mind, jazzy.

We had a holiday of the Gulf of Morbihan once, and caught a boat the Rennes. The pronunciation on wiki isn't nasal, so the homophone is pretty accurate. The half-Breton friend we were with told us that pronouncing place names as if they were written in English was closer to being right than trying to pronounce them in French. For example "Penvins" is pronounced "PEN VINS" rather than "PON VAN".

My Welsh grandmother was convinced that she could speak French, as she had no problem conversing with the "French" onion sellers who came over - they were Breton, of course.

Doh! It was Vannes we caught the boat to. We drove through Rennes on the way there, though.

Can you confirm that "enough" = the first 2 letters (reversed) of 17. It seems a bit obscure, unless "Enough!" is another way of saying that to someone who is being annoying.

It's not clear to me what the "enough" is doing. I took "head back" for the first two letters (but I'm not convinced by that either).

Maybe it is part of the clue: Large and scary enough ?

Think enough is just the"ish" part of the answer. 17d. Hebrew word for head is topped by reversed 2 letter word for zest.. . . I think!
Stumped by most of the rest. Working very slowly this week.
