Yes, but what is the resolution to the clash in square 38 (E/S)? It should be "E" to give the message ".......atomic No FIVE" in the outer squares but we do not want another "E". Is the warning to be careful about choosing position of tiny particles meant to indicate the correct choice of valence or valency?

Thepost - you have spotted a name in the grid, but it is not the only possibility. Spot the other one very close to it and that should let you resolve all your difficulties.

Have a full grid, read all the postings here but still stuck on the endgame ! ! Which R**GS am I to draw and where ? Have still to fathom out the dilemma with No. 5 or 6 ....and how can the word to be highlighted include ALL instances of the thematic letter ? Have looked along various diagonals but with no success. Any little nudges / tips will be greatly appreciated !

lavengro -the message tells you to look for atomic number 6 which is carbon - look for two rings of electrons. You can check a Chemistry reference to find the arrangement which in this instance has no symmetry.

Many many thanks, Unclued. All done and dusted now ! it was the words "resultant representation " which set me off on a wild goose chase. if only the preamble had said ADDITIONAL representation (or used indeed no adjective at all) I would not have spent far too much time looking for a " meandering word" that would encompass all six electrons ! ! ! I had read too much into it.
