Runner beans freeze OK if they are prepared and cooked first.

I have made a recipe based on a mushroom bhaji, but using beans instead of mushrooms - worked quite well.

Alison (her outdoors) is bemoaning ours this year - lots of flowering, but very few beans as yet. Perhaps it's the bee shortage..........

What part of the country are u? I am in East Anglia and germination has been good this year ------- about half a mile away there is a guy who keeps bees --- 8 hives plus. -- so maybe they (the bees) are doing Stirling work here.

Sweet peas were a disaster though this year ---- all short and stubby, with not a lot of scent. I used the same variety as ever --- but just not up to scratch --- I am blaming the weather conditions and not the gardener LOL

In the Pennines, Lancs/Yorks border (disputed area, in fact).

Sweet peas have flowered well - in fact most things have flowered, it's setting fruit that's the problem (though there seem to be lots of apples on the way)

Sorry to interrupt !. My runner beans have finished! - Not a very good crop this year. 'er indoors simply slices them and freezes them without cooking. Works very well. Bobs Mum - I think I am just up the road from you. You will pass through my village if you ever go to the Tollgate!

Sorry to butt in also ! I am picking runners right now. I am down South. I never blanch them, just slice and pop straight into freezer bags, labelled with the date. We then eat runner beans at Christmas instead of sprouts.
