4 Down is an unusual word for behind (posterior) with the E then removed, thus giving a short abbreviated word for
patriots. 43 Down is a word you know --- think of a very very full glass, as in "my cup almost runneth over " ... the cryptic part is explained in an earlier post (see below). THANKS for 1 Across ! !

I seem to have two affected cells in 17Dn. I think the answer is PA-RISH but there is clash with PILAU (22Ac). This means parish has two affected cells. Have I got something wrong?
Still struggling with 6dn.

I can see the answer to 17 but don't understand the wordplay. I am struggling with the unchecked letter in 12. Is this one of the "clash" clues? I have the other 4. I'd also welcome help with 27 and 38 across and 14 and 34 down.

6 Down: Another negative word for patriots but it's its short form (rhymes with little insects) 14 Down is a one-word exclamation ! (think relative) 17 Down is a bird, with the abbreviation of a well-known American political body inside an obscure word for "backside".

34 Down : think of another word for triumvirate. 27 Across is a word for "bring down in the world"; with 38 Across simply think of another word for agitated (11 letters) and a short word for the underworld, which then gets removed. Hope this all helps ....

All finished. Thanks to everyone - I wouldn't have made it without you! I was also looking in the grid for Boris - he seems to pop up everywhere else!
