hi GK. The definition in the clue was North American colonist. If you look up "colonist" (which several of us have done, in Chambers) one of the definitions shows: "colonist" a voter set up for election purposes (US)

so "voter" is acceptable as an answer in that sense.

... also see my post #66 re "colonize" which explains. I can't really add more than that. It also shows after US (historical)

chrise: I live in Massachusetts, where gerrymandering was invented, as the article you posted says (I always loved the picture of the amphibious district). They still do it. My congressional district has been redrawn a few times over the past several years, and once it looked even more ridiculous than the original gerrymander- a cluster around the city of Springfield (home of Webster's dictionary and Smith & Wesson) with a long string of towns along the CT and RI borders, with my town at the end sticking up like a scorpion's tail. What a bunch of crooks.

Jeepers Creepers!!!!

I'm really sorry about the "voter" clue. I should really have specified "old",

On third thoughts, I should never have written it.

On one of my non-diet days I'll consume a large portion of Humble Pie.

Sorry (again) to caused such a controversy.
