Ref: 7a why does 'wearing' mean the 'o' has to be on the outside? I don't wear my underpants outside!

Just looking at this again this morning re. 6d, I have to say "Oh, Ha Ha, RT!" I had alluded to a possible solution back at 7, involving the middle (4 letters) of thirteen (down) being one of this (admittedly slang) nationality, commonly used adjectively for a container for eg. water or petrol (not at the same time!). Playing cards are definitely more RT and PC!

@ torvic: I don't think you get the point. "Wear" is used in a crossword clue to mean "having on the outside". Here the very opposite is the case. Whatever you do with your underpants, you are inside them, not vice-versa (I hope). Obviously the setter meant the "O" to be on the Inside. Without any doubt, therefore, an error, and a pretty elementary one, no?

Interestingly, My Chambers Crossword Dictionary gives 'wearing' as an inclusion indicator - hence 'Dons' (back) is 'including' the 'O'.

Aha! Makes me feel a pedant! Just surprised how some people are still defending this clue on both forums! Not the first error on RT recently!

Mamya: I answered that reply on the other forum last night --- I can't imagine it was intended this way round!

Late checking in as I bought my RT at lunchtime today.
Found it a bit hard-going in places and was stuck on 6d for ages. Is Gambia OK for 9a ? If so GA for Georgia but why ambi for unending scope. Feeling thick !
