Regarding red'elf's post 36, I can only parse it if the lady is "Near Eastern" - am I wrong again?

Ah, sorry Rambler, I should have perhaps put a note with my fennel clue: I found that definition of flannel in my 1960's Nuttalls dictionary, which lists it as a species of verbascum. Can't find it in Chambers online though.
There's no flannel like old flannel!
Thanks Ginge for parsing, spot on!

No probs, the rogue - I'm making such a pig's ear out of parsing some of the clues and missing so much that one more to check makes little difference!

Not at all like you Rambler - you're normally very much on the ball.

Alas I will have to ask to ignore my clues this week as I will be unavailable in the early part of next week - good luck in choosing a winner :)

First of all let me say thank you for the tremendous response this week to a word with no simple anagrams - your ingenuity was wonderful. Thanks also for the help in parsing some of the clues - a sub-par performance on my part.
I know it's been said before but I did start a 'short list' but of course it became a 'very long list' and it's for that reason I'm not going to mention any particular clues - so many would be worthy winners in their own right.
As I'm a sucker for the succinct I'm passing the baton to AB for his wonderfully irreverent double definition:

Snow balls?

The prize is a clip of the periphrastic Stanley Unwin

Mighty congrats ab to be chosen amongst a plethora of ingenious clues. Thanks to rambler for hosting and the prize.

I found Mr Unwin to be both hilarious and annoying in equal measure - but very talented :)

Congratulations AB.

Just one thing - could someone please explain the winning clue for me?
