Unclued, D (for date) and think of a sword used in fencing. The top line (border) is a diagonal.
Hope that helps . The one grouse I have with this Xword is with the clue that defines ' Welding equipment'. The answer it is not used for welding as it is used for work at lower temperatures such as brazing etc An error by Samuel I'm sorry to say!

Thanks all of you. I'm just looking round for that other demarcation but if it doesn't show up soon I'll just leave it. I've really enjoyed this crossword - it was a bit different from the usual style which is great. The only problem is that I've spent FAR too long on it. Still tomorrow's another Listener!

If the "demarcation" was thematically clued, the clue might be "Train left Europe".
