I've now a completed grid apart from the last (2-letter) clue, A hint for this would be very welcome. It looks as though it should end in E.

Remove W from a slightly unusual word for surrender, to give a name for an American. No E in it though.

Your second answer is EANLING. Sorry but haven't got the third one yet.

lecrack. This puzzle was in the (London) Times last Saturday. You can also access it if you are a member of their crossword club. The Listener is a great puzzle but is dangerously addictive!!
