Hi rossim. The RT thread from last May is still there and I found this link

Yes, I've been following them and hoping that Chris will return safely for the third year running. So many have perished.
I asked as I know you showed an interest and had heard one in the Spring. At least I'm pretty sure it was you!

Yes I recorded the first cuckoo on 1st May 2013' then again on 2nd May it woke me up at 5 a.m. From a nearby heath. Chrisg also heard one the same day. Not happy about lack of signals from David who has not sent a signal since 28th December. And Whortle nothing since 7th January.

One solitary magpie, and that only just (it briefly alighted on a boundary fence).
Wrong weather, wrong time of day, I expect. The only other birds I saw at all were three distant seagulls.

Alas!i never saw anymore other than that solitary wood pigeon! Usually there are a few blackbirds hopping around & chattering sparrows in a bush but none came this w/e. Maybe it's too early in the year for our area.

After I had finished my one hour, I was surprised to see two longtailed tits landed on the Berberis and later a Jackdaw.

I asked jazzgirl earlier to share a few of her birds!! Perhaps she has quite a lot of trees & bushes in her garden. I do too but this w/e I didn't see the usual little birds in the bushes & not even the usual group of rooks etc up on the rooftops. They are there now but there was not a sign of even them over the w/e! The sun did come out briefly late afternoon but not enough to attract them.

It really was an unexpectedly poor turn out of our birds. We can usually rely on three sorts of tits (occasionally a troop of long-tailed as well), goldfinches, robins, blackbirds, dunnocks, pigeons and doves, starlings and sparrows, and get sporadic visits from bullfinches, siskins, greenfinches (though rarely recently, as mentioned previously) and sometimes woodpeckers and sparrowhawks.

They must all have been keeping their heads down yesterday - not surprising, really.

Yes a lot of trees and shrubs in my garden and surrounding area. No parakeets at all today. It's lovely and sunny so I guess they have all flown off to the park

One great tit and one blackbird the whole hour. I've noticed far fewer birds in the garden this year, even though I feed them

Reckon it's going to be a silent spring. Something is wrong
