Morning

Probably the only one left who hasn't finished this but the bottom right is miserably empty. Any one fancy giving me the phase 2 word for 20 down.

Thanks

Happy New Year, emrach.

Sorry - that's one I solved without having the full clue!

If you have some letters in the first word, there aren't many phrases that fit (my solution chimes with "civilizing", from a literal point of view)

I think that the "banks" in GK's clue will be the definition for the answer in the grid.

Happy New year to you both.

No, it's not just you Emrach! I've still got 5 left to solve. I spent about half an hour last night trying to put a phase 2 answer into the grid. Duh!

Like Chris I solved 20d without fully parsing it.
I suggest that the phase 2 answer is the opposite of borrowers.

Happy New Year, rossim

That makes sense, but I still don't understand the "Scottish swank" part of GK's clue. Is it a dialect word that I don't know?

Would I be correct in thinking there is a word in GK's clue that is very similar to the answer to 20 down as in they do the same job ?
