The last penny finally dropped. I think 1 and 3 are especially good. Still having trouble getting onto the site at times, but will try to post on time.

1- PARTICULAR (ARTICULATE minus TE in PR)
2- ILLUSION (L US in ILION)
3- CEREBRATE (CELEBRATE switching L to R)
4- SPOOLS? (SLOOPS reversed)- not sure about this one

If 4 is correct, then PRINCESS- though scrambling isn't necessary!

1 - PARTICULAR / In (contained inside) spokesman's job = PR / speak clearly = 'articulate' - without note (-te) = P(articula)R = Def - respect

2) Tantalus or Opulence? just ideas

3) CEREBRATE - Party = Celebrate / switch sides L for R

4) SPOOLS - Ships = Sloops returned = spools + Def (Wind pronounced like kind and not sinned)

1- Particular? - as in "respect" - articulate less note+ PR - spokesman
2- Illusion? – Ilion (Greek for Troy)+ L +US. Prestige is old word for illusion.
3- Cerebrate? To reason – Party “celebrate” with R swapped for L.
4- Spools- Sloops reversed, waiting to be wound

This gives PRCESSIN - Princess?

That was weird. I didn't click "Add Post"; it did it on its own. Bit early. Sorry.
