Fascinating puzzle. I think I must have made a mistake in the top right as for 8d Famous hometown Tarsan, he's gone ape (8) I have ? T Z T ? E ? H which doesn't seem probable. Help!

Your 3rd, 6th & 8th letters are correct. It involves an anagram, and is the home town of a religious leader!
btw 16a definition is at the end.

This is the only clue I have a question mark for (as mentioned above). The definition is church events, but I just don't see how the apparent homophone works.
