Thank you for that Winnie. Bit obscure that one but I expect a more thorough use of Chambers would have found it. I was thinking in bed last night about using the symbol for lead but hadn't grasped the rest of it. Putting the reference books away now for another few months. Over and out.

I have a p and p answer for 66 which fits the master key perfectly, but I can't parse the rest of the clue - am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks Crockett. To help you with 27, i think both words begin with P. The second one is another word for knock, then google this word for varieties of this.

Re my ones, (28) can see a 4 letter word beginning with Q for cash but can't see the rest? No 18 when I look up croquet, I find two words which rhyme but are not the same word. They begin with P and M. No. 17 can't see anything from your clue. Can you enlarge please?

Cheers for 27 I will work on that.

28 I suspect you have the right Q word for Pound which gives you the last 4 letters. The clue stars Left 1 ....

Reverse what you bang the balls through twice P P.

Perhaps I should have said when in French - that is the start of it.
