I completely agree with Ari and yourself. To afficianados there is a BIG difference between a hound and a terrier BUT for the crossword setter (and major dictionary compilers) they're both dogs. BUT strictly speaking hound does not equal terrier, so I may have been a bit naughty today. Artistic licence? (or, dog licence ... heh, heh!)

Right now, I feel a bit like I'M going to the dogs, so will soon be heading for my virtuous couch.

I was just pulling your chain, Jolan. In German Hund means any old dog, and English is a Germanic language after all. Still, the idea of calling those yappy little things hounds does seem a bit silly. Hounds are far more dignified, and they stink.
