Once more:I have an idea for 16d,assuming the first word is the definition & that it's Latin --- just don't get the rest!

I don't get it either, has a q in it?
can you help with the "source of the quotation" - I thought it was 28a with 20a but can't find a quotation.

Those 3 solved now! So are my assumptions about the remaining 3 non-clued ones correct? One problem is that the last word in the quotation seems to fit at two diff. positions:10d & 28a. I have decided to put it at 10d,leaving 28a unclear, assuming 25d is accu --- an abb.known to me in its German form but not until now in Eng.,and it's not in Ch. either.Maybe that's my mistake?

perhaps 29d ends with "X" instead of TEN or something similar??

It can't end in TEN if my 40a is correct (dream). But I still don't see the connection between 29d (whatever it is) and the other two (28&39a):do you have 28 at least? Are you assuming no anag. is involved, despite the apparent ref. to one in the instructions?Question upon question....And are we assuming QUOTERS for 39 or what?!!!

I meant for 29a ??O?E?(X) replacing ??O?E?(TEN) or something along those lines for the "symbolically" bit.
For 28a I only have ?YN? lynn? Wynn?

Just finished and I've noticed that there's a very relevant word, quite coinicidentally I expect, in the first line of Joan's opening post!

Just realized that famous last word in the quotation belongs after all in 28a, so 10d must be s'thing diff. tho' with 2 letters in common. It's not clear to me whether 2 of the 3 words we are looking for must be words per se or whether they just provide the letters for the other one.Did Columba mean to be SO cryptic?!And how about FANTASTICALITY I've only just noticed,I'm afraid!??

"As" is an old coin, "c" is around and "i" is current.
