I posted this under "No Name" some time ago. I still haven't figured out the solution. I wonderif it is a mistake?

Looks like A PEW in SHELL, giving SHAPE WELL but can't link this to 'promise'. Is there another way of looking at it?

I'm reasonably confident of the letters I have (can list them if required). BUT, who knows?

If the answer really is SHAPE WELL then I would have serious doubts about the clue.
Firstly, I cannot find a reference to SHAPE WELL anywhere?
Secondly, SHAPE WELL is not a synonym for PROMISE (however I look at it)

Hope I'm not missing summat obvious!

Jolan could the promise part refer to a seal like a state seal?

I'm convinced the answer may actually be "SHAPE WELL"

AND

Although I can find no reference to SHAPE WELL = SHOW PROMISE, I would VERY reluctantly accept this as the solution

However

SHOW PROMISE does NOT appear in the clue.
