Enjoyed this because the parsings were clear unlike last week and clues could generally be solved from the subsidiary part. Having said that we don't really get parsing of 26.
Nice crossword.

I wasn't sure about 26, but if I'm right it's rather tenuous.
Single letter for "bass" (from singing) inside what might be "zone 2", all backwards, then "area".
Other parses are available!

I think 26 parses as [reversal of 1 inside (1,1,1)], 1
2 of the 1s are from"2" in the clue, the other 3 are first letters of words in the clue.

Thanks. Yes not the best clue.

You might equally say that standard abbreviations for area, zone and bass are all given in Chambers and two is a Roman numeral.

There are lots of dubious single letter abbreviations in Chambers, jono. In what context would the zone one be used?

I don't have (or use) Chambers, and (embarrassingly) didn't think of Roman numerals. IMO the clue is fair but not elegant.

Started even later than usual as we had visitors this morning. I made slow but steady progress mainly in the top half (apart from 6d), but have ground to a halt in bottom half. I have no idea about 22ac. I assumed the definition is a poet, but cannot get him/her. A hint for that and 15d might help.

I've had trouble parsing quite a few completely. But I will reapply myself. I have no idea what most of this thread is about with Maori words.

22: definition is "for [of] a poet". Someone parsed it upthread. You may not be familiar with the "noodle soup", which is 3 letters and Vietnamese.
