I can imagine Paul clueing 5d slightly differently.

I've filled in the top half but not much in the bottom, and several not parsed. Worth it for 5d alone, though!

Very good I thought, worthy of the prize slot.

I see elsewhere that Enigmatist has been setting for the Guardian for 27 years, this being his 131st puzzle and 59th prize. Congratulations to him.

I made a mistake with the 3rd letter of 24a which held me up for a while. I wonder if anyone else did the same thing.

Yes, me too. I still can't parse it even with the correct letter!

Hi Simon, I think it’s 1,4 all inside a reversed 4 (meaning neat).

Hi jono
Fortunately I had already got 15d, or I might have been tempted by your first thought for 24a!
I agree with you on the parsing, which took me a while to see, but not as long as did 12a.

Hi jono, thanks for that, I think you're right.

I also haven't solved 16. I think it may be a 'location' rather than a 'person' but I can't justify the second word of my answer.

16 is one in the bottom I have got. Very English GK! I could post Mr Pearce's first name, but it would be rather a spoiler!

Simon, the definition in 16d is dominant partner. Not a specific person or place.

Rog, I was fortunate regarding 12a in that I used ‘singer’ in the exact same way in one of my Clueless clues recently (it may even have won ;-).
