And now I'll propose my CoD. I liked 14a and 20a and the rhyming pair but will opt for that 22a because i had not spotted it, nicely disguised.

Well 15a has only one possible fit. I assume it is something to do with being buffeted.

22a - read the clue carefully for the 7 letters

Stargull, 22 is hidden, which should help you with 16 also.

Having the words on separate lines didn’t help

I know the answer to 5D but it doesn’t quite work for me.

SimonB, is it the 'up',not being literal that makes it not quite right? I thought of that initially then settled for 'up' being wrong, a mess, erroneous etc ('what's up? ). There are literally hundreds of anagram indicators apparently.
