In the process of fitting in the answers. Does one of the words in the grid follow the pattern ?S?M? Or have I gone wrong?

Mshealey, Definition is 'Fabulous bird' - not one I've heard previously. 'a being', noun, minus the last letter.

Woke up convinced that the penny had dropped while slumbering. As so often, a false dawn. It would be good to know whether the highlighting is one straight line of contiguous cells. The odd lights in row 9 have not helped, alas, though doubtless mighty will be the eventual kicking.

jockie, The highlighting is a straight line of 10 contiguous cells and in a well used manner.
Considering that the theme is close to my heart, only by discovering the highlighting led me to the seven unclued entries. I thought this was a marvellous and very tricky puzzle to crack. Getting the instruction was needlessly laborious though.

Jockie, I found the name by Googling the message with what I guessed to be 2d and 4d.
