Need my last nudge —8D . Any of the following a wrong assumption?

—therefore the clue answer is originally 8 letters

Fabulous puzzle, K!

This is an absolutely brilliant puzzle and I have nearly cracked it. Can I ask for a hint to get me over my last hurdle please - I have the character, film, song title and 5 of the 6 thematic answers, but I can’t parse 27ac or solve 14d. These problems may be related?

Robertp, 27a. has an extra letter, but not in the definition, which is 'test'. Parses as 2,3.

Thanks Mattrom, I had thought that, but cant find As meaning ridge in Chambers. Correction - I found it by looking up Esker - grrr! My thematic solutions are at 19,25,30 ac.,
35,38 d. Where is the last one?
