Ah, many thanks Mattrom!

I have found this a real challenge.
Great surfaces to the clues! And have enjoyed the 70% I have solved.
I have most of the name now but still not got the film or character.
My two biggest missing answers are 2a and 18a, if I can get a steer on those, I'd be grateful.

Lumen, there isn't a 2 A...
18 A - Excellent plan almost blocked by German president (8)

The president isn't British. You need an four-letter 'excellent' (if you are young or like sounding young!) , then a four letter 'plan' loses its last letter and has the usual German tucked inside.

Thanks malone. Got that now. Had a D in 18a, so assumed that was German.
My other one was 11a.

Small sole does not refer to part of a shoe + synonym for 'a'

Lumen, 11a def. is 'shoe' (a comfortable one). WP is 'small sole' (fish) (4) + 'a' (3)

Thanks all, of course I wondered if that was the answer but couldn't see why.

2d, maybe is an extra letter clue, can't get it?

yes - you seem to be on right track ...

In 2d, removing the extra letter gives a word that has a 1-letter abbreviation for the wordplay.

Completing this was satisfying. I had six gaps so knew I was on the right track.
Could someone explain the parsing in 43ac please. I have the solution.
