A very enjoyable puzzle with some extremely subtle clues. All done bar identifying the country itself. I can't parse 9 down though and I'm wondering if "with" should be "without" in 32 down?

I agree, quite a challenging puzzle. Some of the clues involved obscure words and definitions. 9d is one such, inc the definition, which I hadn't come across before plus the 4 letter word for an (architectural) fitting...

K and the rest are correct although z is not. Another one appears twice.
36d is an obscure word that could also be a tennis player. "The initials have also been omitted" is confusing but does actually make sense. If you can identify the cities that will help- especially if you draw a rough map on a spare bit of paper.

All done, though I'm not sure I would refer to my tour diagram as "cyclical".
One loose end. I can't find a reference to explain "Player's" in 1d. I have the answer and see the rest of the parsing.

Me neither mattrom. I'm guessing "player's" refers to an alternative usage in a board game? Chess perhaps? But like you I haven't been able to confirm.
I agree "cycle" was slightly loose but forgiveable given the overall quality of the puzzle.

I think it defers to Gary Player, famous s African golfer. You prop all have to be a certain age to remember him!!
