Totally agree. I often need help to persevere, and it is so satisfying on a sunny Saturday. The Romany caravans and ponies are here on their way to Appleby. Another distraction.

Quisling @9, I have qoogled a 10 letter word together with a 6 letter surname as you suggest and nothing helpful comes up. What am I doing wrong?

Gitto. If you google Oxford Mail and the six letter additional name, you’ll find a couple of old articles. The second one should help.

Try the ten letter word and an anagram of the first six letters of the surname. The anagram is a common kitchen item.

Thanks both. The most elusive quote I have ever come across. I found two versions of it eventually - unfortunately it was the incorrect version I found first.

In 30d “swallows” is a verb. For 32d check out meanings of “ouzel” in Chambers.
