20d is rather complicated. It's 1 (everyone can see this), then 2 "news" around 1 (independent) 2 (business) 1 (run).

Not sure I like this type of clue.

My first guess was, of course, THISTLE!

5a - 2 letter reversal/'in retrospect' of "working" followed by 1,3,1 "both sides of casino"

21a - 1 letter "small" + 3 letter PC + 1 letter "close to price"

20d - 1 letter "evryone can see this" (think cinema ratings) the 2 "news" go around/'about' single letter "independent", 2 letter "business" and single letter "run"

5a: 1st 3 words of clue give the 2, then take the "sides" of "casino" and say what they are

21a: 1, 3, 1, from 1st word, 2nd word, next 3 words of clue

28a: 3, then "manage" surrounding a modern kind of sign.
