Help with the theme may also be sought here. The help given should be fairly gentle in nature. Aim for just a nudge, a pointer in the right direction - and certainly not anything that spoils the puzzle for others.

Another timely puzzle.

Any trickiness going on with the antagonist? Could it be a collective noun resulting from a modified word in the grid?

Never mind, although the antagonist could be considered one of the collective noun that I originally considered.

Way too early for explanations so this is just meant as a comment, but I think that there are 2 extra words in 29d.
