Natty969. The first word is the definition, a noun. I know the first half of the solution, is a medieval coat (as well as a forename), so that's outdated. The second hat, which to me, indicated a type of hat a hat made of...) , turned out to also be an old word, so outdated, for the item itself.

Lightweight is the definition. A summer hat comes second, a playing card first. At least that’s what I have.

And once more…what is going on with 9d? I think I have the answer (a US state), but can’t fully see why.

The 'regularly' in the clue was a great help, and served to remind me of the preamble ..

PS I haven't given the clue, this was a very thematic puzzle.

I think it’s regularly from co-chair plus the exposed letter from boozy. I admit I don’t know whether Home Counties is a location or a double letter thingie because I still haven’t worked out the theme.

Teenieleek, the Home Counties leads to double letters.

Setter popping in (for I am Henri!) to say thank you to everyone who has solved - or is still solving - the puzzle. I won't give any hints or spoilers though. Just wanted y'all to know that I'm following the discussion with interest ;-)

Completed the grid and solved the the theme, but I can only highlight 36 cells, and cannot see any significance in the shape. Is there another cell to highlight?

The magic of posting! I see the extra cell now! But still not sure if the shape is meaningful.
