I enjoyed this and have finished it all apart from 6d. I have an answer and I think the clue is one that includes a misprint in the definition, but I can’t parse it. “ Fairly , maybe Brian dismissed this as awful. “

It would be a 6 letter word meaning “fairly”, minus a famous Brian 🙂

I’ve completed the grid but getting nowhere with the theme. Amy pointers welcome.

In particular, I’ve been trying to parse 31A for longer than a sane person would 😣

The misprint is in the shortest word. The Brian is a musician with a 3 letter surname.

Sorry, my response was to kerguelen.

Re 31a 3 letter vehicle cycling, 3 letter word for 'in', 2 single letters and a 3 letter 'past'.

Asher. the record holder is from the world of the arts, culture. The name gets revealed reasonably easily if you marshall the first few lots of paired letters . The first three (pairs) did it for me...and the last one is usefultoo).

Granama1, thanks for that Brian information. I'd never given a thought to that musician's first name and maybe didn't even know if the surname was real or assumed!

Thank you Ashers and Granama. I never thought of that Brian. I was convinced it was Brian Clough !

Hello all, any help with 13d would be much appreciated: Lightweight coat and hat, both outdated. I’ve got an A second and second last. Thanks!
