In 10a, heard in East End indicates a cockney homophone. The drug is “magic”

Jockie, consider the first 6 letters of your answer as the homophone and the final 4 letters as a cockney "den".

A good puzzle. Something of a slog to start with, then I sped up when the answers started to fit together, then slowed going again until I spotted the character. The grid fill will be harder for solvers not familiar with the source.

I was struggling with the second group until I recalled some advice. There's one derived word I'd never heard of.

Gitto, I am forever in your debt. You have cheered an old man up no end. In my foolish risk-taking youth the 6 letters had not, I think, entered the vocabulary.

Can anyone give me a nudge on reel 18, please? I seem to have two parsings, each requiring a word not in the dictionary, and each giving a different letter for the top-right unch!

Mobea -- the wordplay of 18 is 4 (alcoholic drink, with the extra letter) + 2 (hold) + 3 (function). The (slang) word for alcolholic drink was a new one to me but it's there in Chambers.

Thank you, Will37. You prompted me to check the same dictionary entry for maybe the 100th time but with some confidence to finally find “alcoholic drink (sl)” and complete my entry!
What a remarkable puzzle. Top marks from me!

I have an answer for reel 29, with the final word as definition, but no idea of the wordplay.
Tips please for reel 5
Thanks

Your answer to 29 is wrong. In 5, the capitalization is misleading.

Dylan - for both 5 and 29 the definition is the first word of the clue.
