About 20ac, what effect would the prononciation of England have in the solution? I have zero knowledge of cricket so that may be the problem.

Pronunciation of "England" isn't involved. You're right, it's a cricket clue.

4 letters before hyphen are homophone for "charge", 7 letters after hyphen are the surname of a former England cricket captain. I didn't know the name either; guessed the solution and had to Google to verify.

Re 20ac, I was referring to the pronunciation of the first part of the solution, not of the clue.
