Finally got there but can’t see where ‘King’ fits in with my 6d answer. Any clues?

Hi Pippa, I don’t have it in front of me but I recall king is the first two letters. The full parse is 2,2,2,4.

I've finished, but I can't find the "Submit" button (not that I'm particularly bothered). Is it now restricted to subscribers?

Yes same here. Told me I had finished it so presumably all answers were correct, but no option to submit. There is no consistency. Some weeks I can access the online version direct, others I have to log in first, and sometimes I can only get the pdf version unless I agree to subscribe and pay, which I will not do.

Hi Bowergirl and Chris,

The same thing happened to a few of us on here a couple of weeks ago with the Gemelo crossword, also in the Observer, in that, upon completion, we were just told we'd successfully completed it but were not presented with a Submit button.

I have to use three applications (Firefox, Chrome and Edge) to find one that works, but, even then, the submit button can vanish. If you want to enter, keep trying on subsequent days, as it should eventually appear.

10 ac - "Loose cryptic definition?" Loose it certainly is. Never heard the phrase either, more familiar with **** * fashion.

And more looseness.

As a French speaker, I have never used nor heard used the word provided in the solution to mean "worthy".

And who pronounces
the first part of 20 ac the way the clue suggests?

There are others but I'll stop there.

So as not to be seen to be over critical, I did like 12 and 17ac.

I enjoyed it too, but a big pat on the back to anyone who finished it without help ; my Thesaurus is well thumbed tonight!
