@10 Please don't be put off.

If you treat the central square (the one directly beneath 8d) as black, and just double-check all the clue numbers against those given in the grid in the paper, it still works fine.

I was just about to post that I can't think of a single case where 6d could be considered a synonym for the second part of the clue, but thought I better just check nobody else has raised it -they had.

To say I felt like an ingrate and malcontent when I mentioned it would be a gross understatement. You put yourself out to produce something for the benefit of others, and what do I do - complain that it's wrong.

I'm not being melodramatic, but I felt so bad after my post that I had to put the crossword away and just watch a film.
