A good but not great Everyman. Let me join in with no fussing about. Rhyming pair. Had to look up if 24a is even a word.

PS As jazz fan I quibble with 6a which can be wordless

Not a jazz fan, but know enough to similarly quibble.

I haven’t got 24a, and am pleased to hear it’s somewhat suspect - hint please.

PS I suspect the italic is significant

24: definition "Maximally improve", it's an anagram of pieces of the clue, with "almost" meaning drop the final letter of an anagrist word.

24: it's not the word I'd use for that definition. My preference would drop 2 letters from the solution. I find the solution word awkward and slightly weird.

Under 10 minutes. Fastest Everyman in many months for me.

I did it last night after jono posted the .pdf.
Found it around long-term median difficulty for Everyman, easier than most recent ones, but to be honest I wrote in most solutions without parsing.
11 probably COD, also liked 23 even though it's not difficult.
