Think I managed the whole thing without help so I’m feeling pretty pleased with myself. Only question I have is the parsing of 1d. Not sure how it works. Any advice much appreciated.

1d is a letter removal clue. Take "runs" (1) away from "bugs" (5). Definition "stones".

26 parses as 1, 2, 2, 5. The first 2 is the haircut.
