Argh, I mean I used his 18 when I meant 22! I think perhaps I shouldn’t leave the house or go near the knife drawer today.

Since I managed to finish this, I suspected I would find lots of comments about how easy this was :). Normally I struggle to complete the prize.

Enjoyed this one.

Have to admit I used internet to help with 5D. Hadn’t seen this before.

Slightly easier than the norm but I didn't find it a write in by any means. I've also got one of these horrible colds going around that makes my head feel like it's full of cotton wool so I'm not 100% on the tip today.

For some reason the Android app is not showing that this was by Imogen either. Thoroughly enjoyable solve though and many great clues. FOI 6d. LOI 11a. COD there were many and even though it has been used before, 23a.

Thanks Imogen.

Just occurred to me that one solution here also appeared in this week’s Spectator, with a near identical construction too.
Though I wonder how many Guardian solvers subscribe to the Spectator… they should of course because there are numerous setters (Arachne, Maskarade, Picaroon and indeed Imogen/Vulcan) who set for both publications.

Jono @25
No self-respecting Guardian reader would subscribe to a publication owned by Paul Marshall and edited by Michael Gove ;-)

Hi everyone

Well boys, after a quick read through all the clues, I got precisely none. This is unusual. I must sit down and have a more thorough look.

Sorry to hear about your cold Rocky. They are miserable.

I haven't read the thread properly yet. I'll be back.

I found this quite tricky actually. Took a while to get going, then it started filling up pretty much from the bottom upwards. Eventually I ground to a halt with all the NE still to do... one hint (thank you ilippu @5) unblocked the logjam.
Great puzzle, prizeworthy and satisfying. I agree 12a is indeed a Pauline chuckle, but hard to pick a COD. 1d perhaps.

Similar experience jvector but not as successful in that I’m still only halfway but making more progress now.

Well a second go through led to some answers and then more until I finished all bar 25ac. Can I have a hint for that one please. There ar others I cannot parse though I think they are right; 12ac (I don't see the first letter), 3D, 5D,10d, 22d and 24d. I really like the parsing of 3d and 5d.

So, it was relatively easy, I just wasn't tuned in on first read-through. FOI 14d, LOI will be 25ac, CODs 1d, 17ac and 14d

I must read through the thread now.
