In the of absence of Brewers, I’m not seeing a connection between the unclued words, most of which are guessable. I assume the puzzle title and 1a, 7a are key.
Hints only please.

Looking at the solution to the Christmas jumbo by Doc, I note no explanation of 20A, confirmed as PACE…

Walk in west and east parts of Paris (4)

I liked Malone’s previous suggestion of “…Paris, France (4)” being the intended clue.

1a is the remaining one which links the others, all of which can be preceded by the same word. Unfortunately, my edition of Brewer is too old to confirm 26a, 28a, 29a and 46a.

Looking under the other headword in my edition of Brewer confirmed 28a and 26a, which leaves only 29a and 46a.

Helveticus, I guessed wrongly when I did those two, before checking my Brewer's. The letters I'd chosen would, I think, be the most obvious ones - but they were incorrect.

Helveticus, I've just tried Googling those two with my second choice letters, and got my answers confirmed.

Thanks, Helveticus. I knew my answers were fine - I checked Brewer's this morning - I was just curious! I'm pleased that the puzzle can be solved without Brewer's.

Helveticus, Malone, many thanks. That’s helped me over the line. As you both say the answers for 29a and 46 would not have been my first guesses.

Thanks, Jono. I always prefer not to have to use Brewer's, but there were different possibilities for those two. And I was happy to see that Google was just as useful for those without the book.
