I was sufficiently curious about 8d to look at the pdf (I couldn't get in without paying today). The parsing looks pretty obvious, but I can't see the definition.

Hi Chrise. I think the def is the first two words which are also part of the construction. Can you help me with 7D?

For 7d I have sword that means scoff’, as in consume, comprising a two letter word taken from the fodder, swallowed by crossword setters’ drug of choice , in the plural.
My issue with 9d is that I think the answer is an instrument for carrying out an exercise, not a physical exercise

I felt 8D was fair enough as an &lit. Usually a rarity for Everyman, but not this week!

The answer to 8d is a type of fencing as well as the instrument, if that makes sense.
