Quisling, that has bamboozled me. I have a 3 letter word in the instruction starting with a letter from the second down clue - and that word seems extremely appropriate.

Gitto, if you are using the first letter of the extra word in 4 down, you need to change it to the middle letter.

Brilliant Quisling, it all makes sense now. With my team being knocked out of the FA cup I was momentarily blind to that word!!!

Finished grid fill, and can see what to do with names in end game, without message.
Can't decipher the message though.
Can I get a steer on the extra words in 12a and 19a? Have both answers but can't parse.

Lumen, for 19 A, you have the six-letter 'very cold' (not Baltic) which loses the usual 'about' (about to abandon) - leaving you with the lorry. The first word in the clue isn't needed.

For 12a, 'on counter ' indicates reversal of a 5-letter word for 'notes' missing its middle letter (core) and 2 letters at the centre (essence) of pear.
