Many thanks Chris - I've not heard it either, but the clue now makes sense.

Thanks Ceffi,
I got to your post and realised that I hadn’t completed this clue. I stared at it for a few minutes decided to sleep on it, only to remember the magazine and wake up to complete the puzzle

I was pondering the other day... How many entries do you reckon Private Eye receives for each crossword?

And how many of those are correct?

I actually doubt they KNOW how many are correct. They can't possibly check every single entry; it would be too labour-intensive. So presumably they put ALL the emailed entries into a folder, then use a random number generator to pick one and check whether it's right. If it's not, choose another random number and keep going until they find a correct one.

If that's how they do it, then they won't know how many of the entries were correct.

But I'd love to know how many entries they receive each fortnight. What do you reckon?
