I have 39a as two words. It’s in my. Chambers app. but a very long way down the page!

39a does not appear in the online version of Chambers. Perhaps it appears in the printed 13th edition of Chambers, but I have 'only' the 12th edition (which, unlike the online version, includes 30a). A royal PITA.

Helveticus, my 39 A is under the second entry for the thematic word, that's in the 13th edition.

Thanks Malone, that finally got me over the line. Doc's puzzles are not good for my blood pressure!

I can’t see this for 39A in Chambers, the second entry for the theme word in my paper 13th Ed. is the same as for the online 12th Ed.

Running in the correct order I have
?ARGE?A?
There’s only one word I can imagine fits this, a person who ties in with a large tub - but this doesn’t fit the theme word exactly and I seem to be one multi-word unclued answer short and this is the only one I have left.

Also, 36A: arrives hurriedly and gets into debt? (6)
Should this be (4,2)? I only have the 5th letter unchecked, only the obvious answer springs to mind.

Thank you for any advice.

As always, straight away I understand what the unclued must be, it IS two words.

Just 36A to ponder over…

JWF, the answer is at the very very bottom of page 111 (in my 13th ed) - where the theme word has a second separate defintiion.
Yes, 36 A should have been down as (4,2)

Hi jwf, as I mentioned at the very start of this thread, 36a should be (4,2), not (6). This is yet another example of Doc's increasingly slipshod editing.

Thanks so much, both - I missed the earlier hint about (4,2), and you’re right, the second definition is right in the corner of the 13th Ed., took me ages to spot it in the first place, never mind for the penny to drop.
