Candledave, do you think 12 operates as intended? In my book the letter moves from the first part to the second, and neither works properly without that.

Agree it’s a bit odd due to the reading of the clue post letter move but I just interpreted country slightly differently/wider

I wondered whether this was why it said that the move generally left the clue unsolvable as in this case it doesn’t

Thanks. I could only make it work with the same interpretation, but it seemed rather odd to me, especially when in this case it improved the first clue significantly.

I agree that the definition would be better but as a cryptic clue I quite like the surface and misleading nature of “Diss country music style…” which would be lost if it was changed

Fair enough. I’m sure once the country music lift/separate idea formed it was hard to abandon
