I agree the subscription pricing is ridiculous. The cover price in the newsagents in the UK is (currently) £4.50. Surely if they want people to sign up to eg the commitment of a digital plus print subscription, they need to offer a better price than £18 a month?

I am sure I do too many crosswords anyway, and of all of them, the ones in the Observer are those that I would most readily give up. So unless the Observer decides to offer a hugely reduced puzzles-only subscription, I am relaxed about bowing out.

Having said all that, for those in the UK, you may want to check out getting a digital subscription through your local library. In my part of the UK, I can read the whole of today's Observer on line and for free through my library subscription - Everyman and Gemelo are on pages 124-125 of 188. It may be a challenge getting them to print out, but I think I did manage it, when I was once struggling to access the Spectator Crossword.

For those who want to make a postal submission, the address to send your Everyman solution is no longer the same as the Guardian Prize puzzle. It is instead the same as for Gemelo -ie:

Everyman No. 4,128
The Observer
22 Berners Street
London W1T 3LP

UK-residents over 18 only.

Hello all,
I found my way to the PDF and free subscription. The puzzle was not difficult but I'm baffled by the beginning of the 27ac clue, "After training, son" seems totally unnecessary for solving this quite clear word for "in diligent manner".
Am I missing some UK form of training?

Hi Ethereal,

27a - I think it's just an anagram indicator.
