Thanks will look again. I had assumed that if only one section of 20 cells is to be repositioned the other 149 cells stay where they are.
I also assumed that the 20 repositioned cells must completely separate the other two parts or why would you say cut into three pieces. If they contained adjacent cells and did not move then they effectively remain as one piece.
Then my problem. If all cells are visible after repositioning then section cut out and repositioned must be symmetrical and I can not see how to do this if 13 out of 20 are involved in the transection leaving an odd numbered remainder.
Clearly missing something. Will have another look tomorrow.

Your first two assumptions are correct.

My total for the mounts is 40, with two odd lengths horizontally and four even lengths vertically.

Got it. Thanks all. Very clever.
I too have 40 letters but one of my verticals is two letters longer than the other 3.

I am stuck on the end-game.

Very very near. I discounted that too at first because the letters did not seem line up.
I bet like me you haven’t done the actual cutting out and repositioning.

Thanks Smithsax. I think the two relevant letters do actually line up, because one of them is the same whichever way you look at it and the other becomes the correct letter after 90 degree rotation.

0pt0, I think that your posts #35 and #37 (especially the former) give away too much information.

Rhsl, I am very sorry if that is the case. I tried not to be too specific and I actually thought I was barking up the wrong tree. I fully expected to be told I was completely wrong and I was very surprised when Smitsax said I was close. So, apologies again and I shall be more careful in future.
