Lumen, I've not done the puzzle, but from the mentions on here, I think it's Arab, this person, from Scarab, a symbol of their ancient ancestors (with the 'sc', abbreviation listed in Chambers, dropped).

I was sure it had to be a name, so went with Alan, which was a bit lame!
This clue excepted, a great puzzle, hope you have time to try it.

Got everything but was stuck on how to make the drawing accurate. Thanks to mattrom at #31 for the hint!

Is there an extra word in the last across clue? It seems there must be, but I can't possibly fit it into the object described by the extra letters. And if the designer's name is (5, 3-7) yhen where does it fit in? Or am I barking up entirely the wrong tree?

And of course, the act of posting triggered my senses and the solution appeared as if by magic!
