Hi ashers....there's no black cellls.

And even though the setter doesn't require bars to be inserted, I have, as it helps me construct a completed grid.

If it helps to get you going, what would be 1. across (10) begins with the same letter as 1 down (8).

Also, the grid obeys the usual crossword 180 degree symetry.

Erm....of course I realise that 1 a. and 1 d must begin with the same letter! But at least you can get that corner in to underpin the rest!

Should there be a point in the middle somewhere to complete the shape?

Slightly arbitrary perhaps but I put one of the two extra points slightly left of centre at the intersection of the four clues of four letters each. This seemed near enough for me!

There are a few slightly different versions of the thematic object however I think Serpent would like us to use the original. That's the one that seems to work best anyhow.

for the deduced corners the letters are relevant
