Thank you Ifor for a most diligently and elegantly crafted puzzle. I struggled with the bottom right hand corner and in the locating of the quatrain but patience paid off in the end.

As you say, lower right corner tricky.
I’m completely finished except 39a, any help appreciated.

Definition: 1st 3 words.
Wordplay: 2 synonyms of the next 2 words with the 2nd synonym incurring a subtraction.

Apologies, the 2nd is not a synonym but the word itself after a subtraction.

Hmm, OK I'll think on.
I have the three letter unclued crosser ending with E... could that be wrong?

It's correct, ends with "e".

I have the definition for 39a as the last two words. Could be wrong though!

Think it is first three words. Horrible clue though.
I thought 11a was really hard too.
Loved 2d, so it's swings and roundabouts!

I also have 34d beginning with an 'i'. Again, ready to be corrected. I hope everyone gets their just desserts

I’m confused by the top left corner. 12ac and the unclued 3 letter don’t quite work for me once the changes have been made as per the preamble. It works before the change i.e. don but after it is dor and there is no r in the extra words. Have I got something wrong?

I also don’t have 11ac - or?e?o. That can’t be right.
