As always, I've got the answers others are struggling with, but can't parse 17A or 24A which nobody has mentioned. It's a good job we're all different!

I like this more now that 21 has been explained, thanks!

16 made me laugh.

24 is another one that got better with time :) Trying to be a bit oblique still: Heleninglos, think of a question you may get in a restaurant ...

Hi all. Trickier than usual, but I really liked 16D.

Can’t get 5A despite all the crossers.
Also stuck on both 21s despite help here.

And for 18d, I have an answer which doesn’t use the W but doesn’t really mean increasingly full of tidings (if that’s the def)

Thanks Everyman and forummers

COD 5a - if only because I had a crush on her as a fumbling youth

21a is a great clue - from a time when we made things.

Thanks cerv for the 'Dr Feelgood guitarist' explanation.

5a: think of an American female singer/songwriter, surname King

18D: the W is used

21A a four letter word for job inside a five letter one for "contraptions for the evening"

21D: a (tongue in cheek) description of the products of a 21A
